From the corner office for April 11, 2021

From the Corner Office is Father Mike's weekly bulletin column.

The Easter Message continues…We talked last week about Welcoming Everyone in the Peace of the Risen Christ. This week we continue with that Peace of Christ with God’s Mercy. Yes, it is Divine Mercy Sunday and a time to reflect on the mercy of God as given to us in the Paschal Mysteries of Christ and even each time we celebrate the Sacraments – particularly the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

The first reading mentions the “…community of believers…” being of one heart and mind, which is our goal here at St. Thomas More, to be joined as one family of faith. The second reading invites us to follow God’s commandments – as we will conquer the world! Let us keep reflecting on God’s mercy this week and echo the greeting of Christ – “Peace be with you!”

75th Anniversary thoughts:
So…did you catch that first reading, stating, “The community of believers was of one heart and mind…”? I won’t go on about the early communities selling all their possessions and sharing it among the community - Buuuut, we will need to have a talk sometime very soon on the bills and maintenance costs we have here at the parish. Yes, we are celebrating the 75th Anniversary this whole year. Yes, I am very appreciative of those families to include STM in their estate and obituary donations. Annnnd – Yes, it all does make a difference.

However, with the increases in payroll and the huge maintenance costs - we will really need to look at our fundraising and donations very soon. One of our goals is to get things to a point of not “falling apart” and actually working safely – and to Build for our Future. We all want St. Thomas More to be here long into the future - for our grandkids and those coming even beyond them. Call the rectory if you have questions on how best to donate to the parish programs.
