From the corner office is Father Mike's weekly bulletin column...

The continuation of the “food theme” is starting to leave me thinking, you are what you write… But, can I use that phrase we talked a little bit about last week, you are what you eat? Then the move gets into the Eucharistic analogy of us becoming Christ, since we share in the Holy Eucharist and move to imitate Christ to others.

The First Reading has the angel pushing Elijah to eat, to keep his strength up, and continue to prepare for the journey ahead of him. Yes, the goodness of the Lord is assured through the repetition of the psalm response, which leads us to the Second Reading. Paul encourages us all to be “…imitators of God…” and to “…live in love…” This statement from Paul calls us to be imitators of God, and as Jesus mentions in the Gospel reading, He is the Bread of Life; that special something that is essential for eternal life. We, as imitators of God, can be helpful to others, both as imitators of Christ, and also as nourishment and support to others. Maybe we aren’t exactly “the Bread of Life”, as Jesus is, but maybe we can be at least a little hors d’oeuvres for others…

75th Anniversary thoughts:
SOoooo, here is a HUGE thank you to the committee, volunteers, sponsors, and all of you (!) for such a grand time last Sunday at the 75th Anniversary Parish Festival/Picnic. The weather was “iffy” at times, but in the long-run the weather was great all day (…that power of prayer).

The reviews from everyone have been great. I was glad that we were able to all come together to have that positive FUN-raising, and get reacquainted with each other since the quarantine. Time was spent meeting the new school principal and staff, as the kids are excited to meet them all. The parents seem (even) more excited about the kids getting back to school, so it was a good day for everyone. We will continue with more 75th Anniversary events, and surprises – so stay tuned. The next major event will be the 75th Anniversary Homecoming Weekend in September. AGAIN, thank you to all for the FUN!
