From the corner office is Father's Mike weekly bulletin column

Would it be okay to start out with the statement, “It just not all about you!” If that statement doesn’t take me back to my teenage years, there are only a few others that can out do that one! The readings this week continue to build on Jesus continually telling the disciples and apostles of the passion and death of the Son of Man. Jesus is inviting us and (even) showing us that we need to serve others.

The First Reading echoes the passion narrative with the suffering servant justifying many and bearing their guilt. This “suffering servant” is the high priest referred to in St. Paul’s Letter to the Hebrews. Jesus is this servant, and we are all called to be this same servant. Yes, we can read the portion with James and John asking to have the glory that they think Jesus is referring to in his continual talks about the passion of the Son of Man. But Jesus keeps at it! Jesus tells us – if you want to be greatserve others and remember “It’s not all about you!”

75th Anniversary thoughts:
The 75th Anniversary Year continues here at St. Thomas More, and I was reminded this past week that we “really” can continue to celebrate into April, if you want to be technical, Father... I laughed and said, that finally, it is catching on! Let’s keep the fun stuff happening.

We have a whole lot to celebrate, and I would encourage that we not slow down for any reason. With the start of the school year, there will be various fundraising events happening. The various spiritual and catechetical programs will be taking place, especially as we transition into Advent. This year will be a special time to remember all of our family and parishioners when we move into November, when we remember all of those (small “s”) saints who have gone before us. Take time to reflect on this past year, as crazy as it has been with the “worldly things happening”, but reflect on - How we have grown as the parish of St. Thomas More and a Family of Faith.
