From the corner office for Feb. 6, 2022

From the corner office is Father Mike's weekly bulletin column.

The feast day this past week, The Presentation of our Lord, marked 40 days past Christmas. This week we move into the Fifth Week of Ordinary Time as we see the weeks starting to fly by. The readings all talk about encountering God in our lives.

The First Reading has Isaiah seeing God on the throne with the Seraphim all singing praises. The Second Reading has St. Paul recalling how the Lord appeared to him and the others. By the time we get to the Gospel of St. Luke, we have St. Peter knowing that Jesus is with him, and Peter simply says, “Depart from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man.” Now recall both Isaiah and St. Paul talking about being “unclean” or “abnormally born”. Yes, we are all unworthy of being called children of God, or even in God’s presence. BUT – guess what? It’s not about you! God chooses us, we don’t choose God. The fact is that God knows what and who he is dealing with, and with God’s endless mercy still wants to be with us!

75th Anniversary thoughts:
With the quick change of the calendar page, we are into February. The year of our 75th Anniversary is coming to a close and we’ll be starting to look forward to the next “significant anniversary”! The year has been amazing with the activities and reflecting on our many years. The year has not been without its challenges either. But thank you all for the help and a special thank you to the PPC for their leadership.

I was glad to sit down with Bishop Malesic when we had a chance to talk about St. Thomas More. Talking of the parish and the school was helpful to show the Bishop of how we all come together as one family. I expressed how we have our challenges and yet, together we have been able to overcome and move forward. That might just be the highlight of this past year – facing our challenges, and together overcoming them. Keep an eye out and ear open for our next major event, as we continue “Together” as St. Thomas More.
