From the corner office for March 6, 2022

From the Corner Office is Father Mike's weekly bulletin column.

Fasting, Prayer, and Almsgiving are often all recognized as the basic themes of the Lenten Season. Buuuut, how about the themes of Remember, Call-out, and Challenge? This year let us all go deeper in our journey towards God.

The First Reading has Moses speaking to the people and saying (basically), hey, remember when… St. Paul in the Second Reading reminds us that everyone who even calls the name of the Lord will be saved! The story of Jesus returning from the desert in the gospel reading of St. Luke speaks of the temptations, and this is only conquered by Jesus challenging the devil… Yes, the devil leaves for a time. With these three themes, we can go deeper in our journey, closer to God with the three themes of Remember, Call-out, and Challenge.

75th Anniversary thoughts:

This week as we begin our Lenten journey, we complete our 75th Anniversary journey as March 8th marks the closure of this very special year. Now 76 years after Archbishop Hoban established in Brooklyn, the new parish of St. Thomas More, naming Msgr. Smith as the first pastor – we remember all of our parishioners both living and in the communion of saints. For all the hard work of all of our parishioners, benefactors, priests, religious, staff, and volunteers, we say another “THANK YOU”. Without all of the hard work over the years, we would not have the parish that we have today. Despite having so many of the challenges, we continue together to Build for Our Future and grow in our faith together - as St. Thomas More Parish.
