From the corner office for Sunday, Aug. 28, 2022

From the Corner Office is Father Mike's weekly bulletin column.

The Twenty-Second Sunday of Ordinary Time brings us to the virtue of humility… How we are called to serve others and witness to others – humbly as directed by Jesus in the Gospel. The passage from the Gospel of Luke speaks at one level of being simply humble in our interaction and lives here in this world, and also at a level of the eternal wedding feast in heaven, where the hope is that we are invited up closer… The Letter to the Hebrews tells of our being in the presence of God, this is our presence around the altar in our celebration. The First Reading from the Book of Sirach tells us that as we humble ourselves, we find favor with God… This is a simple lesson for our discipleship, that we think of ourselves less and more of others. These are basic lessons for us this week, that we humble ourselves to serve and help others.

From the Pastor’s Desk:

Speaking of “Humbling Ourselves,” we need to continue to thank Mr. & Mrs. Anonymous for all of their help and support to St. Thomas More Parish & School. Looking over the financial numbers for the year, so far a challenge, and they will be presented to the parish as a whole – both good and not so good… BUT, a huge thank you to everyone and especially the Anonymous families, as you have grown from challenging letters or emails “of strong concerns” into offerings of how can I help (?) or can we make a donation for… This week’s Gospel and readings call us to humble ourselves and think of others more than ourselves. I would say that we are growing well in that area, that we are being disciples and living out the Gospel! Thank you for all of that, and a special thank you to the many Mr. & Mrs. Anonymous families out there for your time, support, and talents – which you all humbly share with us all here at St. Thomas More…
