From the corner office for Oct. 9, 2022

From the Corner Office is Father Mike’s weekly bulletin column.

The Twentieth-Eighth Sunday of Ordinary Time continues with Jesus using the Samaritan as the example in this passage from the Gospel of Luke. Notice both Naathan and the Samaritan being outsiders. Like an onion, there are many layers to this week’s readings. The first level is the healing power of God, then the help to all God’s people – even beyond the Israelites, the persistence preached by St. Paul to Timothy (and the others…), and also (again) Jesus reaching out to those outside the circle of the Israelites. Now the final core of all of these readings is “being grateful” for the love of God which heals all of us – not just a few. Remember that this is our spiritual healing. Yes, as Naaman and the Samaritan leper found out, it is just that simple, being present to God and Jesus, with a desire to be healed. If we put ourselves in God’s presence or with Jesus, what is it that we would need healing from? and would we be grateful?

From the Pastor’s Desk:

The change of seasons is more than just the turning of the leaves and temperatures, but here at St. Thomas More we have a whole CYO Sports program to change over. Moving from fall to winter sports seasons is a huge undertaking. There is information going out very soon for the winter programs, and the various games that will be hosted here on the campus will be scheduled. It is our hope to get as many student-athletes, parents, and families involved with the sports programs. Now, that is not without the benefactors’ support, staff, and volunteers to the programs.

Thank you to everyone from the top Athletic Director, the Athletic Board, and even to the concession stand hosts. There are many moving parts, and hopefully all the parents will get more involved and realize the fun it is, as well as the family bonding that happens. We’ll do our best to help the young ones have fun, and grow spiritually in their sportsmanship, and also go home tiredBUT we need everyone’s help to rally together!
