From the corner office for Nov. 6, 2022

From the Corner Office is Father Mike's weekly bulletin column.

The Thirty-Second Sunday of Ordinary Time brings us to the point of “looking beyond the horizon”. The Responsorial Psalm says it all, “Lord, when your glory appears, my joy will be full.” Basically, Lord when your glory is here, I’ll be complete!

The First Reading has the brothers being tortured in front of their mother, and yet remaining so strong as they know that they are now living for God’s glory. Their earthly bodies will be mutilated and killed, but they will soon be with their God, the one true God of their ancestors. St. Paul asks for Jesus and God our Father, “…encourage your hearts and strengthen them…” Jesus then silences the Sadducees, who thought they cornered Jesus, when he tells them that there is something much greater than what you have in this age! The question now for us is (still simple) – are we looking down at the footsteps of this time/place or are we looking up towards the horizon towards the glory of God?

From the Pastor’s Desk:

These short updates seem each week to be tougher-and-tougher, as there seems to always be so much happening around the campus. The Trunk or Treat event brought a fun time for the kids and adults last Sunday. Thank you for the volunteers that helped with the set-up and clean-up. The winter sports season has started and the gym and parking lot is back to “busy speed”.

The special attention needs to be pointed out of the special #weGIVECATHOLIC signs back on campus. This 24-hour fundraiser is just that, an “all-out fundraiser” for the full 24-hours on November 29th. This is the annual Giving Tuesday after the Thanksgiving Weekend. The daylong event will offer special prizes through-out the day, with hourly goals, and most of all - opportunities for us as a parish to make up for those slower times of the year when collections and fundraising was not as shiney. I would ask that if you have questions on how to give, where, or why to give – Please talk with me or someone from the parish or school staff. This will be big day for the parish and the Diocese, as this fundraising day is a national event. The past few years, we have been catching the eyes of the movers and shakers around town, as they have been watching St. Thomas More rising up to the occasion and need. Be sure to let me know of your questions, and start planning for this major event.
