From the corner office for Jan. 8, 2023

From the Corner Office is Father Mike’s weekly bulletin column.

AGAIN, we say – Merry Christmas! We come together this week, still in the season of Christmas, which finishes with The Baptism of the Lord on Monday. Tuesday will start the 1st Week of Ordinary Time. With this Sunday being The Epiphany of the Lord we look and “see” the revelation of God among us – in Jesus.

The First Reading from the Book of the Prophet Isaiah tells how the glory of God shines – not only on Jerusalem – BUT ALL the nations! Echoing in the Responsorial Psalm, that “… every nation on earth will adore you.” Even St. Paul talks of the revelation to the holy apostles and prophets and the Gentiles! All are coheirs of this promise of Christ Jesus. The Gospel of Matthew tells of the magi from the east arriving in Jerusalem – on their quest for something and someone “bigger than themselves”. Through their studies and wisdom, they knew there was something greater than themselves happening in the area. It is through the revelation of the Christ Jesus that the salvation of the world happens. So, I ask – do you see it? How is Jesus revealing God’s love and mercy to you and your family?

From the Pastor’s Desk:

This week has been a very busy, yet quiet week. The office and school have both been on break and the deer have been wandering around the campus wondering where everyone might be… It would be the time to (again) say thank you to all - the music director, servers, liturgical ministers, musicians, cantors, and choir who all made the liturgies so special. The worker elves, who helped set up the church decorations, from the candle maker, the wreath hangers, the nativity builders, the plant placers, and the ironers and “vacuum-ers” – thank you all. I know that so often people will mention their gratitude for the nice liturgies, but this year I would like you to take time to thank them with me, and when you see them – please thank them directly. Merry Christmas and May you and your family have a healthy and peace-filled New Year! (YES, one last time…)
