From the corner office for Jan. 15, 2023

From the Corner Office is Father Mike’s weekly bulletin column.

So, here we go! The Second Sunday of Ordinary Time… It seems like that was a quick jump “right into it”, and yes it is for us. The readings this week all call us to look inwards to “who we are, as we are in God’s eyes”. The First Reading from the Book of Isaiah, tells us point blank that we are servants of God and glorious in the sight of the Lord. That is quite a statement, so let’s look on… After the Responsorial Psalm, where we tell God – that yes (!) we are all here to do God’s will. St. Paul is telling the Corinthians that – if he is called to be an apostle of Christ Jesus, then you (all of us) are called to be holy. SOoo that even St. John the Baptist shares with us, how “…he has seen and testified that he [Jesus] is the Son of God.” We are all in this together, and we are all called to see Jesus as (he is…) the Son of God. Let’s look then beyond our imperfections and challenges to be holy and follow Christ ~ to God.

From the Pastor’s Desk:

Personally, I think that we can never be short on thanking all those ministers, helpers, and “simple elves” who have helped us all out so much during the holiday season. You’ll see the change in the church decorations as we move into the season of Ordinary Time. The green vestments and the altar linens are here to show us the change of the season. The arts and environment are very important details that add to our celebration of the Holy Eucharist and all of our liturgies. The “Arts & Environment” crew help us in our celebrations. THANK YOU to not only all of the ministers, but also those helping out with the church arts and environment!
