From the corner office for April 2, 2023

From the Corner Office is Father Mike’s weekly bulletin column.

What the heck?!? Did you notice that change-up? The first reading of the Gospel of Matthew, begins our liturgy with the crowd praising Jesus as he enters Jerusalem, yelling “Hosanna! Hosanna!” and even waving the palm branches. Then next - yes, the readings this day “get right into it!” The next reading from the Book of the Prophet Isaiah, talks of the humility of the prophet, even to the point that you would think that the writer is speaking of Jesus. The Psalm questions God, asking if we have been abandoned, (again) as if it was Jesus asking the question. The very brief passage from St. Paul’s letter to the Philippians continues to talk about the humility of Jesus and then God greatly exalting him! The Passion of our Lord from the Gospel of Matthew now lays the foundation of our salvation and our all! Year-after-year we read these passages leading us into Holy Week. The hope is that this year we may notice the change-up; maybe in our lives, maybe in our families, and maybe (even) within our parish.

Take time this week to pray over these readings – and then – pray more!

From the Pastor’s Desk:

Yes, Holy Week 2023! Who would have thought, but it is here. There is always something to be “thankful for…” and this week is no different. The various activities about the parish, and those who help host them or simply clean-up. The arts and environment people who help decorate the church and sanctuary. The outside landscapers who were more than eager to start getting the campus back in shape. Let’s all say thanks! But also, let’s all take the extra time this week to pray more and grow more, as individuals, as a family, and as a parish!
