From the corner office for March 7, 2021

From the corner office is Father Mike's weekly bulletin column. This column is for Sunday, March 7, 2021.

Are you thirsty? There is the phrase, “you can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make it drink…” I often tell priests and ministers this same thing when they tell me that they are frustrated as the work they are doing seems fruitless, that it is just a waste at times… Well, that may be true actually, people may not be ready to drink of the living water, to listen to the Gospel message, and they simply - may not be ready to listen to Jesus telling us – to love others as ourselves. YES! That is a huge problem, a major hurt to all of our hearts. BUT BEING A PEOPLE OF HOPE, we pray and live in ways that are examples to others. Hoping, that they look at our lives, our families, and our parish family and say, “I want what they have!” or “I want to drink in that living water!” As we celebrate 75-years of faith, let’s all look around and see who we can help to drink it all in… Asking who among us needs a deeper thirst… Asking who wants to go deeper in our faith and relationship with God.

Fr. Mike

HERE WE GOoooo! This week, March 8th, we begin the celebration of the 75th anniversary year, at least for the parish… The next few years will be more celebrating, as we note the important dates of the parish and school. the founding of the parish is listed as March 8, 1946 with the first Mass on April 7, 1946.

There was a whole lot happening back in 1946. The city of Brooklyn was in its postwar growth, the price of a gallon of gasoline was 15-cents (as was a doughnut), and coffee was 85-cents for a 2 pound bag! NOW, before you say, Father – you’re always worried about money… No, it is just what we are able to show the many changes since 1946. Believe you me (!),

I’ll be the first one to buy a few dozen Jack Frost Donuts if they would roll back the costs to celebrate St. Thomas More’s 75th anniversary! So, let me work on that one for a bit. Let’s all keep an eye out for the special anniversary happenings and celebrate together, as we go deeper in our faith and help build for our future…
