“This illness is not to end in death, but is for the glory of God…” Isn’t that a nice line to pray over as we sit with an ill relative or are even sick ourselves? Can you imagine a priest going into a sick call at the hospital quoting this one? Even with Jesus ‘running late’ for the appointment with Lazarus, and even Martha calling Jesus out by saying, “…if you had been here, my brother would not have died.” (I like a lady who is not shy in calling out the Son of God!) BUT, this is where Jesus is making his point – the statement to his friends and even Mary and Martha. This is what is talked about in the short passage from Ezekiel and Paul’s letter to the Romans – That Jesus rules over even death itself.

This week we continued with our funeral ministry for a tragic death of one of our young members of our family of faith. Yes, it is hard to tell the family that this is all in God’s plan and we look for God’s glory in it – but this is where our faith leads us, to go deeper and grow in our faith relationship with God.

75th Anniversary thoughts:
With the celebration of the Solemnity of St. Joseph and our parish's 75th anniversary we look to not only continue the celebration, but we offer to St. Joseph our call for guidance and protection in a special way. The fundraising and the events are starting to take form. If you are looking to include St. Thomas More in part (or all) of your estate planning – NOW is the time to do so. These conversations are so very hard once people pass away – BELIEVE me! The physical plant repairs will always continue and our hope is also moving towards buttressing-up our school funds for families in need. Rest assured that the fundraising we talk about is very necessary. As a family of faith we need to continue well into the future here at St. Thomas More.
