From the corner office for July 11, 2021

From the corner office is Father Mike's weekly bulletin column...

“Well, here we go…” The staff is just starting to know me, after a year no doubt. If Father says, “I had a solid five hours of sleep and two cups of coffee!” That is translated to: stay away from Father, as his crazy ideas will be spewing out…

But, let’s look at this week’s reading as we change gears from looking at faith to living our faith. Jesus calls the twelve together and sends them out to spread the Good News. Paul confirms our adoption in Christ and how we were chosen since, “…before the foundation of the world, to be holy and without blemish…” Even Amos is in on the work, as he is sent forward from Bethel by the priest. Now the interesting point is that Amos tells how he was “minding his own flock and living a nice life” until he was sent by the Lord to prophesy to Israel.

Imagine, being comfortable in life, and now being sent out into the world. I think we can all relate to that one. This week, let’s look at how we are being called by God, out of our comfortable lives to spread the Good News! [Look out Brooklyn, here comes STM!]

75th Anniversary thoughts:

This weekend with the outdoor Mass (if the weather holds-out) will mark a turning point in the summer and our activities. The Mass will bring in a “turning-up the volume” a bit on the activities and the fun! The ice cream social, breakfast, and other events were meant to only get you in shape for the heavy lifting! We are requiring you to Have MORE FUN in the name of the parish’s 75th Anniversary Celebration!

The history quotes and videos are being gathered. The bigger plans for the visit from the Bishop and the Home Coming Weekend are all falling into place, so stay tuned! On the fundraising side and ticket sales, all I can say is let’s keep it going. Offer tickets to friends outside the parish, check the couches at the doctor’s office when you go, and pick up those shiny pennies in the parking lot ~ every little amount helps. With the needs of the HVAC system of the church and continual maintenance, I’ll be glad to show you where that extra help will be applied.

Thanks again for all the support, prayers, and time everyone has given to the parish and school of St. Thomas More. The help allows us to celebrate 75 years, and hopefully ~ many more!
