From the corner office Father Mike's weekly bulletin column...

The readings this week all seem to be centered on food… But as we go deeper, we see that the readings also simmer with the theme of sharing – and enjoying…The First Reading has Elisha talking about sharing the barley loaves with the people. The Gospel from St. John has Jesus blessing the loaves and fish - - To Be Shared! Yes, Paul (naturally) bridges the two with his call for us to live in “…all humility and gentleness, with patience …and love…” That’s Paul, the master crowd pleaser!

But let’s look at this theme of sharing, and how we are able to come together as a family of faith, share our time, talents, and treasures to keep our parish community growing. We can all ask ourselves, and our families… how are we sharing with others? We can go on for days about our strong help for the poor, which is great. We do need to keep talking about our help for the parish and school, as this will be something for the next few months. But for now, let’s just ask, “Am I really sharing my time, talents, and treasures to help others?”

75th Anniversary thoughts:
This week we have the blessings of celebrating the Saturday evening Mass with Bishop Malesic, as he visits our parish and prays with us all. This weekend’s special liturgy celebration is part of the many 75th Anniversary events planned, prepared, and produced by a small committee of parishioners.

I would say that we all can continue to thank them for their hard work, but the best way to thank them is to engage and enjoy the events. Since the Covid-19 uncertainty this year, it was decided to have various ‘pop-up’ events, and take a more quick-simple, yet fun approach to the 75th Anniversary events. We will be celebrating the next few years with the anniversary of the school and this beautiful church building itself! So, let’s continue to “engage and enjoy” all that we have and all that we share as a family of faith, we call St. Thomas More ~ the Fun Parish!
