From the Corner Office is Father Mike's weekly bulletin column.
This week we have Jesus talking with the scribes as others looked on and he simply “Drops the Mic!” We may not be totally familiar with this phrase, but what it refers to is Jesus “shutting them down”, “brings it around third”, or even “silences the room, and walks out!” When Mark finishes the passage with, “And no one dared to ask him any more questions,” you might almost hear that little voice saying, “Elvis, has left the building…” All of these readings this week are calling our attention to the end – what will be happening next.
In Deuteronomy, we hear Moses speaking to the people and telling them to keep the commandments (There is the land flowing with milk and honey). St. Paul continues to push the fact of Jesus being the one true high priest. But, let’s not be lax in appreciating these final weeks with Jesus. He is bold and things are getting more serious as we know that with his journey up to Jerusalem what happens next. Yes, we are called to love, but we know that Jesus gives us his perfect love, that love on the cross. Next time we find it challenging to ask what love is, simply look up to the cross and see…

75th Anniversary thoughts:
Well you might be asking what other 75th Anniversary events do we have coming around? Are we done with this stuff yet? Wellll…, not exactly! Now as we come to closing off the liturgical year and Ordinary Time, we look into Advent and how we will be moving forward into the next 75-years! We will be looking for opportunities to continually invite others in and back to St. Thomas More Parish and School. We will be looking to continuing to grow as a Parish, as families, and individuals – all closer to each other, and our God.
I had a nice laugh when the person asked me, “Father – what are you building now next door to the church?” The person admitted that they genuinely thought that with all the work around the parish that the fencing and work in the field was part of the St. Thomas More work. I simply shook my head, and said, “No that is all the city. We at St. Thomas More are only building for our future with good people and families!”
