From the Corner Office is Father Mike's weekly bulletin column.
The Twentieth Sunday of Ordinary Time brings us to an end of another week on our journey. The gift and blessing of faith, which we discussed last week, helps to grow and move forward with persistence. This persistence, I’m sure is something that we know all too well, as something that helps us reach our goals.
Think of the First Reading story of Jeremiah, when those others dropped him down into a cistern (a well) because he was trying to warn the king and others about the Babylonians. St. Paul calls us all to “…persevere in running the race…”, just after he talks about the “…so great a cloud of witnesses…” Those are the communion of Saints and saints (small “s”). Then even Jesus tells us that there will be the challenge ahead of us. Jesus speaks of the division, first after telling of the setting the earth on fire! This is some very hard, prophetic, and (even) apocalyptic language. NOW, mind you Jesus is talking about the fire of the Holy Spirit and how that will bring division. This is be a good division though! Let us stoke the flames of the Holy Spirit in our hearts, our families, and our community – we need this fire more than ever!

From the Pastor’s Desk:
This week we have the Feast of The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which is NOT a holy day of obligation this year, but one to celebrate all the more. Grab the friends and head to Little Italy and Holy Rosary Parish to celebrate and (also) join us for our regularly scheduled 8:15a.m. Mass on Monday morning.
We continue to celebrate our parish of St. Thomas More and our dedication this year to the Holy Spirit. The Summer of Fun 2022 celebrations continue with the ice cream socials. I want to be sure to thank all the volunteers that have been helping to host the events. We are working hard to bring everyone together as one Family of Faith.
The financial numbers for the year are being finalized and we will be talking more as a parish on how we are doing financially. The beginning of the school year will help us to consider our own “Guardian Angel” program and the Diocesan “Angel Scholarship” program. Both programs will help families in need of the extra financial support for their children’s tuition. PLEASE see me with any questions.
