From the corner office for Oct. 16, 2022

From the Corner Office is Father Mike’s weekly bulletin column.

The Twentieth-Ninth Sunday of Ordinary Time brings us closer to the end of this liturgical year, but we still have a few more lessons to complete. Currently for us this week, we are asked “What would you do if you knew God was on your side, backing you in your battles?”

The First Reading from Exodus has Joshua leading Israel up against the mighty Amaleks - knowing that Moses was up on the top of the hill, with his arms outstretched, and showing God was on their side. St. Paul tells Timothy and the others to “…remain faithful to what you have learned and believe…” Yes, God is on your side. Jesus, in the parable of the women and the dishonest judge, shows how the persistent women eventually win over the judge for a fair ruling. Persistence, perseverance, continual prayer, all lead us to remaining faithful to what we have learned and believe. So again - What would you do if you knew God was on your side, backing you in your daily battles? Stick with it, and keep at it…

From the Pastor’s Desk:

The financial report for the 2021-2022 year is in, has been approved by the Diocese, and is available for you at all of the doors or at the rectory office. Personally, I believe in the complete transparency of the financial scope of the parish. The numbers are very interesting this year… Concerning, yes, but yet not alarming. The school shows a huge amount of debt, but this is offset with a large amount of income at the parish side of the report. The facts are simple, as we have been completing a whole lot of facilities repairs, updates, and readjustments to our financial health. The leadership of our new principal, Ms. Meg Cosgriff, has helped us put the school back on a firm foundation and we are moving down the tracks to a very bright future. There has been very hard work both in the school and by the rectory staff, in the front office and with the maintenance staff. I thank all of the staff and volunteers who have helped us this past year. I also will continue to thankthose faithful benefactors and all of you donating your time and treasures. We as the parish of St. Thomas More could not do it all alone, but as a true family of faith, we are doing well. Thank you, all!
