From the corner office for May 28, 2023

From the Corner Office is Father Mike’s weekly bulletin column.

Pentecost, the Jewish Feast of the Harvest. The Catholic Feast of the Holy Spirit! The Christian feast that helps complement the Nativity of Christ, the Passion, and the Easter Resurrection of Our Lord. The coming of the Holy Spirit to the apostles, disciples, and the others as they joined together for the time of Pentecost.

The First Reading gives us the narrative of the Holy Spirit coming to them and then, “…they were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in different tongues, as the Spirit enabled them to proclaim.” The Responsorial Psalm and the Second Reading present a slower “taking in of” and “going out” of the early church. It is in this Gospel of John where we have the interaction with Jesus to all of us. Jesus greets us with, “Peace be with you,” and also, “As the Father has sent me, so I send you.” With the blessings and grace of the Holy Spirit – let us all soak it in and go out to others!

From the Pastor’s Desk:

The “unofficial start of summer” is here, and the Summer of Fun 2023! is now upon us all. I would ask that every family get the dates on the family calendars, on your phone calendars, and (YES!) on the refrigerators! If you are just on the merry-go-round and notice summer is back around – be sure to join us all for the fun. Last thing we want is for you to sit in the fall, preparing for your winter shut-in and say, “I wish I would have joined them…”

Let’s take time this weekend and week to be prayerfully-mindful of those who gave their lives either during times of war, peace, and from the (after-effects of their service) for our freedoms. It is important to pray for them, being thankful, and (also) supportive of their families who still live with the pains. Happy Memorial Day (and week) and Thank you all!
