From the corner office for August 6, 2023

From the Corner Office is Father Mike’s weekly bulletin column.

This week we celebrate the Feast of the Transfiguration. The line from St. Peter, “Lord, it is good that we are here…” may not be one that we readily say each week as we drag ourselves and our kids to church – BUT it is actually GREAT that we are all here! We may not see it, but with each week, with each prayer, with each time that we push ourselves to grow in our faith, we are “Transforming” ourselves and those around us. The First Reading tells us of the vision of God, the Son of man, and the others. As St. Peter tells us all in the Second Reading, “…we had been eyewitnesses to his majesty.” These things that we read, talk about, and celebrate each week are right from those who witnessed them – Firsthand! This short, and ‘mysterious’ story of Jesus with Moses and Elijah pulls together so very much of the entire mystery of God. The basic part of this passage though, begs us to look at ourselves and ask, “Are we being transformed?”

From the Pastor’s Desk:

Did you notice? The calendar page turned again. When I turned one of the calendar pages in the rectory, I couldn’t figure out the problem, until I noticed it was a 2024 calendar which a friend brought back from Paris. A very nice Claude Monet art calendar, but for a few months, I never looked at the dates close enough to see that they were for 2024… So, are you looking at things close enough lately? Is there anywhere you can engage more in the parish life, the school activities, or the CYO sports events? You know I’ll be pushing these questions as we finish up the summer and move into the fall season. Let’s all look a bit closer at our life, too.
