From the corner office for Oct. 1, 2023

From the Corner Office is Father Mike’s weekly bulletin article.

The readings for this Twenty-Sixth Week of Ordinary Time bring us now closer to the end of Ordinary Time, and (dare we say…) closer to the start of the Advent season. But before we turn the calendar page already, as we just started October, we celebrate All Saints and All Souls day in about a month. Jesus starts to really “step it up” with more challenging lessons and more direct statements.

The First Reading from the Book of the Prophet Ezekiel talks about the turning from wickedness to preserve our lives, which guides us to live as God lives. The Responsorial Psalm and St. Paul talk about the mercy of the Lord so that we can see the attitude that is in Christ Jesus. (NOW…) The statement from Jesus to the local leaders – Hey! There are tax collectors and prostitutes that are entering heaven before you… You talk about being direct, Jesus definitely does not sugar coat it! The power of God’s mercy never stops amazing us, and we need to be glad that God’s ways are not like our ways! God is not limited like we are as humans, rather God is unlimited – especially with love and mercy!

From the Pastor’s Desk:

Inviting and thankful are two items, I want to say “Thank you” to everyone here at St. Thomas More. The past two months, I have been challenging everyone to be more Inviting and Thankful for things here around the campus, but especially as we gather for the celebration of the Holy Eucharist in our liturgies. The greeters and even the “celebrity greeters” who have been helping out to cover the doors are all great! Thanks to all… From the moment our front tires hit the driveway, until we leave the campus, we need to be inviting and thankful. I know that we also go beyond that here at St. Thomas More, as there are the hellos in the stores and restaurants around town. It is a group effort, and together as the Family of St. Thomas More, we’re doing it!
