From the corner office for Jan. 14, 2024

From the Corner Office is Father Mike’s weekly bulletin column.

Listening with the ears of our heart…” Sounds like a nice phrase, doesn’t it? But, do we really have ears on our heart? Yes, we do! And we really need to start using them! Imagine Samuel hearing the Lord calling out to him, but (what?) if he didn’t hear with the ears of his heart? Samuel thought it was Eli calling him. Even St. Paul telling us of our body being a temple of God, and that we are here to do God’s will, not ours. If that was ever so easy, like the clearness of the disciples of St. John. They were in a great frame of mind, in a prayer-filled position to hear St. John declare, “Behold, the Lamb of God” and the disciples heard with the ears of their heart… May we all be like these early disciples of St. John and respond as the Responsorial Psalm proclaims, “Here am I, Lord; I come to do your will.”(!)

From the Pastor’s Desk:

Back into “Ordinary Time” is far from being “ordinary” time… We may have noticed that we are already into the Second Week of Ordinary Time, but as you know here at STM, time flies by so quickly for us all! Before you know it, we will be looking at the Ash Wednesday readings and planning out the Season of Lent. We continue to thank all the volunteers, ministers, and benefactors for their generous help – Thank You AGAIN… Looking ahead, we will also ask if you have gotten and read the Matthew Kelly book titled Holy Moments – A Handbook for the Rest of Your Life. Consider ordering the six free books that the author/publisher offers. I would offer that, I will pay for the shipping – if that is a problem for you. But, when your extra-free copies arrive, please share them with others or place then on a table near the entrances. We are working very hard to “Create our own Holy Moments” here at STM, all year long!
